# Assign a Product to a Rate

Assigning a default product to a production rate in PaintScout makes material calculations happen automatically when you add surfaces to estimates. Choose your most commonly used products for this.

Start by adding your product list to the **Products** section of your Account Settings.

If you haven't added any products into PaintScout yet, check out how to do that below.

## How to Assign Products to Production Rates

1\. After your materials have been input into the Products section of your Account Settings, go to the **Production Rates** tab.

2\. Select the **Rate Category** you would like to start with.

3\. Choose the rate you want to add a product to.

4\. Click inside the product box to open your product list and choose a default product. The system uses the coverage rate specified on the selected product. To customize the coverage rate (for example, for a spray production rate), use the **coverage rate** box below.

5\. Now, when a surface is added to an area, both the labor and material columns will calculate automatically!
