# Estimate v2 Beta Guide

Overview of the rebuilt Estimate v2 page, including inline editing, the new Settings section, updated sidebar, and send dialog.

{% hint style="info" %}

#### Important Information:

* This feature is in active development. You may encounter bugs or missing functionality as we improve the experience.
* You can enable this feature by going to Account Settings > Beta Features section
* Please send questions or feedback to <product@paintscout.com>.
  {% endhint %}

### Overview <a href="#overview" id="overview"></a>

We've rebuilt the estimate building page. You'll see the same estimate data as before, but the screen around it is new: how you edit, where settings live, and how the sidebar works.

{% embed url="<https://res.cloudinary.com/taptapquote/image/upload/v1790711075/export-1790711048110_klniut.gif>" %}

### The Biggest Changes <a href="#the-biggest-changes" id="the-biggest-changes"></a>

1. No more clicking to edit
2. New Settings section
3. The sidebar has been updated
4. Multi discounts on an estimate, including custom ones
5. Work Order layout
6. Tiered Packages
7. Bulk Swap Products
8. Send dialog, including saving a draft

***

### 1. No more clicking to edit <a href="#id-1-no-more-clicking-to-edit" id="id-1-no-more-clicking-to-edit"></a>

**Previous:** open a sent or accepted estimate and it's read-only. You click the page, a small "Edit" prompt appears, and you click that to unlock the estimate.

**New:** the estimate is editable the moment you open it. There's no edit prompt and no unlock step. If you're wondering where the Edit button went, that's on purpose. Just start editing!

***

### 2. New Settings section <a href="#id-2-new-settings-section" id="id-2-new-settings-section"></a>

Estimates now have their own dedicated "Settings." All estimate settings now live in one window. There are six tabs: General, Follow Ups, Payments, Presentations, Terms, Advanced.

Three ways to access:

* The gear button beside the "+ Add" button
* Clicking the estimate title
* Clicking "Settings" in the dropdown menu beside the send button

{% embed url="<https://files.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPyUbJF1GXLjxdJqm89IQ%2Fuploads%2F2IJxg3deFbrtdrV21pwL%2Fexport-1790617272511.mp4?alt=media&token=9ae97a0f-4008-4934-9fd4-1fd53acfa204>" %}

{% hint style="info" %}

### Important Changes:

1. **Presentations:** Presentations have moved from the sidebar to their own tab in the Settings. You can no longer edit a presentation from the estimate itself, so head to Settings to change or swap a presentation.
2. **Payments:** Payment options have also moved from the sidebar to their own tab in the Settings. Go there to adjust your payment options.

{% embed url="<https://files.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPyUbJF1GXLjxdJqm89IQ%2Fuploads%2FQbTEagsZOiTi6jHyiJBX%2Fexport-1790636444677.mp4?alt=media&token=d68f08e0-a02a-42cb-815a-07b06d74970e>" %}
{% endhint %}

### 3. The sidebar has been updated <a href="#id-3-the-sidebar-has-been-updated" id="id-3-the-sidebar-has-been-updated"></a>

The sidebar on the right is now five cards instead of a stack of pages:

* **Details** — status, type, template, presentation, estimator, contact, deal, tags, and the deal pipeline
* **Activity / Chat** — the timeline and the customer message thread, switched by a pill toggle
* **Calculations** — hourly rate, discounts, tax, subtotals
* **Tiered Packages** — a new Good/Better/Best feature
* **Follow Ups** — a quick overview with click to expand

Each card can be opened full-size for more room. The sidebar remembers whether it was open, and which cards were expanded, per browser.

There are two ways to reopen a closed sidebar: the toggle in the top bar, and the tab on the right edge of the screen.

### 4. Multi discounts/tax rates on an estimate, including custom ones <a href="#id-4-multi-discountstax-rates-on-an-estimate-including-custom-ones" id="id-4-multi-discountstax-rates-on-an-estimate-including-custom-ones"></a>

Previously, if you used a custom discount or tax rate, you could only add one at a time. That's changed: you can now add as many discount and tax rates as you need on an estimate, including custom ones.

{% embed url="<https://files.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPyUbJF1GXLjxdJqm89IQ%2Fuploads%2FshHRZJYI7V8Iqaprve0v%2Fexport-1790617610391.mp4?alt=media&token=0e9efdfc-8ebd-45ea-898a-c32e38d37fcf>" %}

### 5. Work Order layout <a href="#id-5-work-order-layout" id="id-5-work-order-layout"></a>

The work order gets a few new ways to control what it shows and how it looks:

* **Quick tabs.** Switch between showing areas and surfaces together, or just one or the other, with tabs at the top.
* **Reorder and organize items.** Drag and drop items around, set them to half-page or full-width, or hide the ones you don't want to show.
* **Hide client contact info.** Useful when you're sharing the work order with subcontractors and don't want your client's details on it.

{% embed url="<https://files.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPyUbJF1GXLjxdJqm89IQ%2Fuploads%2FCNvvD9lDd169aVM4jTUU%2Fexport-1790617682205.mp4?alt=media&token=77979e99-7770-48ba-b067-667b3e40a352>" %}

### 6. Tiered Packages (Good/Better/Best) <a href="#id-6-tiered-packages-goodbetterbest" id="id-6-tiered-packages-goodbetterbest"></a>

This is one of the biggest changes, and it's only available on the new estimate page. Instead of sending a customer one price, you can present three: Basic, Standard, and Premium.

<figure><img src="https://231248629-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPyUbJF1GXLjxdJqm89IQ%2Fuploads%2FqDqv7vpBjrBtWGIwv3UO%2FScreenshot%202026-09-28%20at%202.04.33%E2%80%AFPM.png?alt=media&amp;token=1398f24b-bb98-4cf4-8e52-a8ba80730f0b" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

1. **Build a template once.** In Settings, set up the wording, styling, and (optionally) product swaps for each tier. You can reuse a template across estimates, and you can link one to an Estimate Template so it's applied automatically whenever that template is used.
2. **Apply it to an estimate.** Turn on tiered packages from the sidebar and pick a template. The estimate you already built always becomes the Standard tier; Basic and Premium are derived from it.
3. **Adjust each tier.** For Basic and Premium, you can override the price by percent or by a flat dollar amount, rewrite the tier's wording just for this estimate, mark one tier as recommended, and disable Basic or Premium if you don't need it. Standard can never be disabled. If a template has product swapping set up, Basic and Premium pricing adjusts automatically based on the swapped product; otherwise you set the price yourself.
4. **What your customer sees.** They land on a page with the three package cards, then click through to the full estimate for whichever tier is selected. Standard always shows as +$0; switching to Basic or Premium shows the price difference. Whatever tier is selected when they accept is the package they're agreeing to.
5. **Managing it afterward.** Enabled packages show in the estimate sidebar under Tiered Packages, where you can disable them, reopen the builder to edit, and see each tier's total. You can switch which tier is currently selected any time before you send or the customer accepts.

{% hint style="warning" %}

### What happens if I turn off the beta?

You can opt out at any time from **Settings > Beta Features**. Keep in mind that some visual changes affect what your customers see on their estimate, so use the estimate **Preview** to check how your estimates will look.

**This is especially important for Tiered Packages**. Turning off the beta hides Tiered Packages in Settings and in the estimate sidebar, but it doesn't remove packages you've already added to an estimate. Those packages stay on the estimate, and your customers will still see them and can choose between them. You just won't be able to edit or disable them unless you turn the beta back on. If you don't want customers to see packages on an estimate, disable the packages on that estimate before you opt out.

### 7. Bulk Swap Products <a href="#id-7-bulk-swap-products" id="id-7-bulk-swap-products"></a>

Swapping a product that shows up across several substrates and line items used to mean editing each one by hand. Now you can swap it everywhere on the estimate in one action.

<figure><img src="https://231248629-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPyUbJF1GXLjxdJqm89IQ%2Fuploads%2Fs2Xd40YABrudwcbf6vfu%2FScreenshot%202026-09-28%20at%203.43.50%E2%80%AFPM.png?alt=media&amp;token=8df606dd-dc14-4464-a277-c1e3289583f1" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**How to use it:** Select the areas, surfaces, or line items you want to affect using their checkboxes, then click "Swap Products" in the toolbar. In the dialog that opens, choose the product you want to replace (From) and the product you want to replace it with (To). You can set up more than one swap pair at once. Each dropdown shows the substrate count, line item count, and volume, so you can see the impact before confirming.

Archived products don't show up in either dropdown. If the estimate has no products yet, you'll see a prompt to add some first.

**What happens when you confirm:** The replacement product takes the place of the old one everywhere it appears in your selection, and the estimate recalculates once, after all the swaps in that action are applied.

**Good to know:**

* Swaps are strict one-to-one; there's no partial or conditional replacement.
* Nothing stops you from picking a mismatched replacement, so double-check your choice before confirming.
* There's no undo. If you swap the wrong product, swap it again to fix it.

There's a Send Feedback button in the dialog if you want to tell us how it's working for you.

### 8. Send dialog, including saving a draft <a href="#id-8-send-dialog-including-saving-a-draft" id="id-8-send-dialog-including-saving-a-draft"></a>

The Send dialog has been redesigned. Everything it could already do is still there, plus one addition:

* **Drafts.** If you start typing in the Send dialog, step away, and come back later, your edits are still there waiting for you.
* **Preview.** Preview now lives as its own button in the dialog, so you can take a quick look before sending without leaving the flow.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.paintscout.com/support/beta-guides/estimate-v2-beta-guide.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
