What is an Area?

An area is a space or room where the work will be done. (i.e. Bedroom, Office, East Wall, Porch, etc.)

How to Add an Area to an Estimate

1. On the estimate, click Add Area or Line Item

2. Select Area.

3. Choose from your list of pre-built areas from your settings or create a custom area.

4. Once you have chosen an area, you can start customizing the details.

  • Personalize: You have the flexibility to customize every field, including the name. Simply click on each box to make edits.

  • Add dimensions: Input the dimensions of the area in the designated width, length, and height boxes. If you wish to override the automatically calculated linear or square footage, click the customize dimensions button. To revert to the default value, click the triangle icon.

  • Select an area type: You can determine if the area is a room which will calculate the space as if it has four walls. Or you can select surface if you just want to estimate the front side of a house for example. You can configure each estimate type to calculate as a room or surface by default in your settings.

5. After you've picked a room and entered the dimensions, it's time to choose the surfaces you want to paint. Begin by selecting your rate category, such as Walls. Then, pick the specific surfaces within that category, like 8 ft walls. PaintScout will do the math for you, calculating the painting hours and price based on the production rate and area dimensions. To add more surfaces, just hit the + Add Substrate button. Once you're done, click Add Area to add the area to the estimate.
